Born and raised in Brooklyn, New York, Robert M. Scarano, Jr. has been involved in the fields of architecture, construction and real estate development for over three decades. He has spent the past 30 years designing unique buildings that have set new standards for city living. To maintain his high standard for projects, he prioritizes continuing education for his staff and for himself, thereby being constantly in the know regarding the latest technologies and design trends.

In recent years Robert has become a real estate developer, committing himself to environmental aspects of design and sustainability, striving to implement and achieving the high standards for accreditations such as LEED, Passive House, Net Zero and Living Building Challenge accredited buildings, without compromising design aesthetics.

Robert is an alumni of the City College of New York and of New York University in the disciplines of Architecture, Engineering, Construction Management, Building Construction, Real Estate Development, and Real Estate Finance. His experience prior to establishing his own practice in 1985 includes the prestigious New York City firms of HLW Architects, SLCE Architects, Liebman & Liebman Architects, and Philip Birnbaum/Costas Kondylis Architects. In 1985 he established a sole practice in Staten Island, which quickly expanded into a major development firm. In 1993 Robert returned to his roots in Brooklyn, where his practice is currently undergoing its third expansion. Today, Scarano Architect PLLC is an award-winning partnership with a highly skilled professional staff that carries out a wide range of building types, handling dozens of projects annually.

Tamar Kisilevitz, AIA, ARA

Tamar Kisilevitz, AIA, ARA is a partner at Scarano Architect, PLLC. With 15 years of comprehensive design and project management experience, she has been a leader in diversifying the company’s body of work into new building types. As head of the projects division of the firm, Tamar focuses on the planning, design, and development of residential, commercial, mixed-use, and high-rise buildings. She has been instrumental in setting up the firm’s operations in the iconic DUMBO, Brooklyn office. Her focus has been on new construction and complex rehabilitation projects for private sector clients.

Tamar’s award-winning completed projects include the trendy sixteen story Bowery Hotel in NoHo, NYC; the Toy Factory Lofts, the first loft conversion project following the comprehensive Downtown Brooklyn Rezoning Initiative; the decontamination and adaptation of oil storage silos into gallery spaces along Brooklyn’s Gowanus Canal; and “EVRY” condominium in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. Tamar’s expertise in the design of hotels has led the firm’s growing activities in this sector in New York City.

Tamar is the Vice President of the Society of American Registered Architects New York Council and an active member of the American Institute of Architects. A graduate of the Pratt Institute School of Architecture with a B.Arch and minor in Historic Preservation, Tamar is a licensed architect in the State of New York. Her Jerusalem, Israel roots inspire her to advocate toward working with existing structures when possible, rather than tear-down and rebuild.
